5 months

Ava is 5 months old (plus a few weeks). Where does time go?

You rolled over today from back to stomach. I was starting to get worried because you had not met this milestone yet. I tend to get nervous if milestones aren't met after what we've gone through with Aiden.

You are barely putting weight in legs. I'll be talking to Dr. White at the next appt about this.

You smile all the time and are starting to recognize people like mommy, daddy, Aiden and nanny!

You can bring objects to your mouth

You love your play mat

You can sit up with the support of a pillow

We tried cereal last month but you weren't interested so we waited. We tried it again tonight and you really aren't interested again. We will see how that goes over the next couple of days.

You don't sleep through the night and still get up to eat at least one time. Ugh

You don't really like your bed as much as mommy and daddy's bed.

You still have choking incidents and it scares me to death each time. I keep a suction bulb near me at all times.

You are a very happy baby and rarely cry.

The only time you do cry is at night around 6-7 or if you are tired, hungry or want to be held.

You are such a joy and mommy and daddy love having a daughter!

Beach bums

We had an amazing vacation at the beach last week. We really needed it after the year we've had!

Get ready for picture overload

These two had a blast together. It was so nice to have a friend for Aiden the play with.

All three kiddos. Can't wait to add a forth the next vaca!

"My name is Aiden"

Sometimes I feel like I have failed as a mother. I know this is a silly thought as I know I haven’t, but there are times where my thoughts take over and for a brief moment I start to think these statements are true.

What brings me to this thought is the other day Aiden and I were at Kroger doing our weekly shopping. An older lady comes up to us in the checkout line and starts talking to Aiden and commenting on how cute he is (which he totally is)!!! When she asked him what his name was he looks at me like a deer in head lights. Like he had no idea what she was asking him. I immediately answered for him, as I normally do, and she proceeded to say “can’t you tell me your name honey”. When I told him to say “Aiden” he was unable to do so and it came out nothing like his name sounds. The lady then looked at me and stated “well maybe your mommy needs to work with you more”.

Fumes came over me. I wanted to punch the lady in the face. I wanted to say, you know what lady I do work with him, I work with him three days a week at therapy and I work with him every minute of every day on trying to say sounds and words. When I talk to my child I have to say it multiple times and have him repeat after me and work on vowel sounds daily. I break almost every word down to the simplest form just for him to say words such as “horse”. Many people take for granted that their two year olds can say more than 20 words. It’s hard most days. Most days we struggle with basic communication. Yes, Aiden is progressing well and is starting to say more words but most people probably can’t understand anything he says. My family can of course and we get so excited when he is able to break the word down and pronounce it.

So there you have it. These are times where I feel like I have failed because my child can’t say his name.  We will be working on this and hopefully soon he will be able to say “my name is Aiden.” Until then we will keep working with him and encouraging him.

Take me out to the ball game

We went to the Samdord vs louisville baseball game yesterday and Aiden had a blast. Ava actually enjoyed herself too!

We were so happy to have Aunt GiGi home with us!  So sad to see her go back to Alabama.

And to top off a great day when we got back to the car someone had broken out my window and stole my purse.

At least they didn't get my wallet!

Many firsts this week!

My little love bugs!

Sunday we went to church for the first time with both kids. I have been really nervous to take Ava around a crowd of people because she has been so sick. Both kids did great!  And looked so cute!!

This was Saturday. If you can't tell I'm in love with ruffles!!

Since it was so beautiful and 70 degrees on Tuesday we went to the zoo. I have to say both kids did great and I survived my first trip to the zoo with two kids. (With the help from family of course)

Ava actually had her 4 months shots that morning, you would never know it with the smile on her face!

Ava eating oatmeal for the first time last night. She wasn't so sure about it! We will keep trying!

Poor baby

My poor babies. One has had the stomach flu and the other is cutting teeth, so it hasn't been much fun around here this week.

This is how we spent our Monday. Watching Nemo and Mickey Mouse.

On Sunday night right before bed Aiden started throwing up and it didn't stop until Monday morning. This is the first "real" time he has been sick and it was so sad to watch. I felt so sorry for him. However I did get to catch up on my cuddles. We sent Ava to the sitter so I could Lysol every square inch of my house. We didn't want to get her around him and get her sick too. Luckily my mom was on a snow day and was able to come help! By Tuesday he was feeling a little better. Still today he isn't eating much but we are on the mend.

This precious thing got her first tooth today at 4 months old. I can't believe it. Maybe that's why she doesn't sleep?? I doubt it but it's worth a thought! She also had to go back to the hospital to be deep suctioned today. We are so over this weather and ready for our beach trip. Would you call me crazy if I told you I have already started packing!!
